What is Varicose veins?

Varicose veins is a disease of the veins in the legs generally in which the veins size becomes much larger. Many times you can see it on the legs where snake like (or bunches) of green or bluish coloured veins pop out. Because of this, the blood gets collected there and is not able to travel back to the heart normally.

If I don’t have visible snake like veins on my leg can I still have varicose veins?

YES. Some veins are slightly deeper from the skin surface than the others. They could be enlarged and cause problems without being able to see from outside

How do I know if I have varicose veins?

To check if you have varicose veins, there are many ways. The best way is to visit a vein specialist near you. For self check, you can follow the following steps:

  • Take the Do-it-yourself (DIY) VEIN CHECK available on our website
  • Ask your family members to check if you have any visible veins that pop out.
  • Ask yourself this – Do I get swelling or pain in lower legs in the evening/night?

If you find your vein check score is high OR your answer to either ii or iii point is yes, then it’ll be beneficial for you to take opinion of a vein specialist

What are the signs and symptoms of Varicose veins?

Visible veins on your leg; swelling in legs in the evening or night; pain in the feet and calf in the evening or night; legs feel tired; legs feel heavy; legs feel better when raised; legs feel better in the morning. You may have some or all of the above symptoms. Not everyone feels the same. For some patients, there may be no complaints or very mild leg pain for many years without realising that they suffer from Varicose veins

What is DVT?

DVT or Deep Vein Thrombosis is a blockage in the deep main veins which take the blood back to the heart from the legs. This blockage can be a blood clot.

How does stockings help in Varicose veins?

Stockings press the veins from outside. Like pressing a garden water pipe, the blood flow speed increases. The veins, because they’re compressed, decrease in size. Blood collection in veins reduces and therefore the complaints / symptoms of Varicose veins or DVT reduced to a great extent.

If I wear stockings, will my varicose veins / DVT or other problems go away?

NO. Stockings will only help as long as you wear them. They’re a necessary external help. To help solve the problem from inside, you’ll need to consult a vein specialist who’ll advise you best course of action.
